Global trend in health care

Part 1: Identify and discuss a Global trend in health care that you believe effects (now or in the future) care of patients in the US.

The global trend in the healthcare that effects (now or in the future) the care of patients in the US is changes in the healthcare work environments. The provision of healthcare has been greatly affected by errors of different kinds; however, the current changes adopted by organizations are helpful in realizing quality and safety improvements (Hughes, 2008). Currently, healthcare organizations are focusing on the systematic change approach. This ensures that the factors within the chain events that lead to adverse effects and errors are eliminated. The changes includes focusing on the provision of patient-centered care, institutionalizing safety culture and utilizing evidence-based practices with the aim of addressing or controlling uncertainty in the healthcare organization (Cook et al. 2000). This will ensure that threats to safety and quality of healthcare are dealt with in the US thereby eliminating the everydayness of errors which in turn improves the quality of healthcare (Hughes, 2008).

10.2. Part 2: Identify and discuss a National trend in health care that you know has had an effect on the quality of care in your current or past place of employment.

The national trend in the healthcare that has had an effect on the quality of care in my current or past place of employment is the prevalence of latent factors. The organization has inadequate staff leading to heavy workload as well as unsafe work environment for the healthcare workers (Hughes, 2008). In addition, the leadership and the staff of the organization schedule inadequate training and outdated equipment which has led to near misses; they have almost caused adverse consequences as well as harming a patient (Cook et al. 2000). However, they have affected healthcare workers and care processes thus creating inequities in safety and quality of the healthcare. The heavy workload as well as the use of outdated equipment has adversely affected the quality of care in the organization as it eliminates patient-centered care (Hughes, 2008).
