Subject: Exercise Survey

Purpose

The survey was prepared to study the exercise schedule for campus students of various ages. The purpose of the survey is to identify the most important aspects of exercise as well as the reasons behind the exercise and the motivation of the students. In addition, the survey will investigate the most popular exercise locations and how frequent the students exercise. Since lifestyle change and the prevention of major illness prescribe exercise and activity, this topic seemed valid for the survey.

Procedure

  1. The survey was based on the following questions
  2. What is your age? [ ] 21years or below. [ ] 22 years or above.
  3. How frequent do you exercise? Never [ ]. 2 times per week [ ]. 3 times per week [ ].
  4. Where do you exercise? Gym [ ]. Elsewhere [ ].
  5. What is the primary reason for your exercise? Weight control [ ]. Body shaping [ ]. Relaxation/ stress relief [ ]. Strength/endurance [ ].

The above survey questions were issued to 50 participants who were divided into two groups each of 25 students each. One of the group comprised of male students while the other group was of female students. Further, the responses to these questions were also divided depending on the age of the participant as indicated in the questionnaire and their residential areas, whether on-campus or off-campus.

The responses received for each of the questions above were segregated in terms of the gender, age and residential areas. The frequency of responses for each of the question in these categories were tabulated as in Table 1, Table 2 and Table 3 below. The tables also include the percentage responses for each of the responses.

Results

Physical exercise is a very important activity which is also very popular among the college students. However, different people have different exercise schedules. Only 12% of the students who participated in the survey do not exercise. The rest exercise at least twice per week for both male and female students (Table 1).

For the male students, most of them do not attend the gym but do their exercises elsewhere. Only 27% of the male students attend the gym. For the female students, however, those who attend the gym and those who do their exercises elsewhere are statistically balanced at 49% and 51% respectively (Table 2).

For both male and female, exercising is largely focused on weight management at 41% and 54.5% respectively. Other reasons for exercise that are also popular are strength building among the males (27.3%) and body shaping among the females (22.3%) (Table 3).

Healthy living is a personal responsibility for all people. Besides having a balanced diet and seeking health advice, experts also recommend that people should exercise regularly to ensure that they live a healthy life. Among the college students, physical exercise is considered an important part of healthy living and people have different exercise schedules. Although there are some who do not exercise at all from the results of this survey, most have a schedule for their weekly exercises. The use of the gym for exercise is very important. However, most of the students especially the male tend to exercise elsewhere. However, the choice may be impacted by their residential areas and the accessibility to the gym. Many of the students who participated in this survey exercise for weight management, strength and body shape building as well as for relaxation.
